Seasonal Fruit - DecemberA combination of hydroponics, accessing fruit from all over Australia (climates) and modern storing technology means that most fruit and vegetables can be accessed all year round. However the best locally produced fruit at the moment is:
Fruits: mangoes, cherries, stonefruit. apple - lady williams, cumquat, grapefruit, lemon, oranges - blood - seville, papaya, pawpaw, pineapple - smooth leaf, tangelo Vegetables: artichoke, asian greens - bok choy - choy sum - gai laan - wonga bok, asparagus - green - purple, avocados - fuerte - hass - sharwill, beans - broad - green, broccoli, cabbage, carrot, cauliflower garlic, ginger, leek, lettuce, mushrooms - morel, onions - salad - spring, peas, potato, pumpkin, silverbeet, spinach. Keeping fruit fresh at home!Pears: Pears can take 3-7 days to fully ripen at room temperature. Store at room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Ripening from the inside out, pears are ready to eat when soft at the stem end. On |
